The Cave of the Patriarchs is the resting place of the holy forefathers and foremothers of the People of Israel. The resting places of Avraham, Isaac, Jacob, Sarah, Rebecca, and Leah are shared at this sacred and historic spot.

The Cave and surrounding area were bought by Avraham as a burial spot after the passing of his wife, Sarah. Eventually, it became the resting place for him, Isaac and Rebecca, and Jacob and Leah. Together, they make up the majority of the holy founders of Israel, from which the entire Israelite Nation descend.

The sacredness of the Cave of the Patriarchs is second only to the Temple Mount and accompanying Western Wall. The Zohar describes that their tomb stands at the entrance where souls enter the Garden of Eden.
