The Cave of Elijah the Prophet has recently reopened after being closed for over a year for significant renovations. The cave is on the Northern slope of Mount Carmel in the point of Haifa. According to Tradition, Elijah the Prophet stopped here to pray before challenging the Priests of Baal as recorded in 1 Kings 18. For centuries, it has been a holy pilgrimage site not only for Jews, but also for Christians, Druze, and Muslims. Ancient Greek inscriptions line the cave's ancient squared walls, and decorative carvings surround an indention in the back of the cave's wall where a Torah scroll was once kept during its long history as a Jewish Holy site.

When Rebbe Nachman of Breslov made his voyage to the Holy Land and came to this cave, he said with what can only be assumed to be the breath of Divine Spirit, "This is where Elijah the Prophet stood and prayed!"
